Arlington Heights man dies after striking tree

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office spokeswoman said an autopsy is scheduled Thursday for a 79-year-old Arlington Heights man that was found dead Wednesday afternoon after his car struck a tree.

Myles Martin was pronounced dead at Northwest Community Hospital after the 4 p.m. accident Thursday, officials said.

Authorities said a witness called 911 at 4:09 p.m. reporting the accident on the 1000 block of South Walnut Road. Responding police and fire personnel found the man lifeless in the vehicle, authorities said

Tire impressions in the snow indicate the car was being driven on the west-side shoulder of Walnut Road before crossing the road and striking a parkway tree, police said.

Paramedics took the man to Northwest Community, but doctors were not able to revive him, police said.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to call police at (847) 368-5300.
