Lake Co. senior picnic back?

The door could be open for a scaled-down senior picnic following discussion Monday by a Lake County Forest Preserve District committee.

A long-standing annual summer event, the picnic has been canceled for 2011 because of cost and declining attendance.

The district instead is considering other ways to provide activities for seniors in various locations throughout the year. But some members of the education, cultural resources and public affairs committee on Monday contended the event should continue in some form.

The possibilities for 2012 are expected to be discussed at a session to be scheduled.

Meanwhile, the district's finance committee on Thursday will consider the same staff-suggested alternatives for 2011 as discussed by the education committee.
