Vaughan Athletic Center reopens in Aurora

Fox Valley Park District’s Vaughan Athletic Center reopened all its facilities except the aquatic center at 3 p.m. Tuesday after air and water quality tests determined it to be safe.

“The reopening went very well. People were very anxious to return to the facility and resume their recreation activities,” facility manager Barb Potter said.

The Vaughan Athletic Center closed temporarily after it was evacuated about 9 a.m. Monday morning. An outside vendor accidentally mixed chemicals in the pool’s pump room that morning, affecting the air quality near the north delivery doors and making a few patrons feel ill.

The aquatic center is expected to reopen next week pending a meeting with the Illinois Department of Public Health.
