Bail set for Hoffman Estates woman accused of stealing car
Bail was set Thursday at $40,000 for a 30-year-old Hoffman Estates woman accused of stealing a car from a Huntley acquaintance and driving it to Oak Park.
Tracy G. Hansen, of the 1000 block of Mayfield Road, needs $4,000 to secure her release while the case is pending. She was unable to make bond and is awaiting trial behind bars at the McHenry County jail.
Hansen was picked up by Oak Park Police at about 6 p.m. Wednesday night in the 400 block of Garfield Road in the car that was reported stolen, Huntley Police Deputy Chief Todd Fulton said.
Fulton said Huntley police were called to the 10800 block of Harry Drive to take a report of a stolen car.
He said the owner of the vehicle had driven with Hansen to Huntley in the 2009 Chevrolet Malibu at about 5 p.m., but that Hansen had taken the car — along with a pack of cigarettes and $150 — when the owner was distracted.
Officers were advised by the owner the car was equipped with On-Star service, so officers contacted the mobile tracking company and they began tracking the car's location.
Oak Park officers located it about 6 p.m. and Hansen was arrested without incident.
Hansen was later taken back to the Huntley police station and charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, a Class 2 felony, and theft, a Class 3 felony. She is due in court Jan. 31 for a bond reduction hearing.
If found guilty of the Class 2 felony, Hansen could spend between three and seven years in prison or receive up to four years probation.
