Small price to preserve nature
Having seen the article about a proposed referendum so the Kane County Forest Preserve District would be able to buy up more land while it is so cheap seems like such an excellent idea to me. It will enable us to have more habitat for various species to live in and people to enjoy. Subdivisions were springing up everywhere before the recession hit.
This referendum is estimated to cost the average homeowner about $1 a month in property taxes. What a small amount we would spend to enhance our open spaces that are becoming less and less.
When polled a while back, 75 percent approved, but later Sun City residents disagreed. To me it appears that we aren’t helping ourselves and future generations if we only think of our own money. When we don’t have a place for birds, animals, fish and all the wild species of plants, including trees that help purify the air, we are harming our planet.
The Kane County Forest Preserve provides so many opportunities for all ages to appreciate what is living in this wonderful open land. They have chances for children to learn about what is living and growing along their many paths, for adults to relax and learn, ski, bike, hike, etc. To me this is a learning and enjoyable way to enhance our lives.
