Wolves goaltender to visit Deerfield Library
Kids, get ready to meet a Wolves player.
Chicago Wolves goaltender Peter Mannino will appear at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at the Deerfield Public Library, 920 Waukegan Road, as a part of the Read to Succeed program.
Mannino will discuss the importance of recreational reading and encourage kids to use the many resources that the library has to offer.
He will speak about the benefits of reading outside the classroom and explain how reading and education play a part in the players' lives as professional athletes.
He will also sign autographs.
Children will have the opportunity to win prizes, including Wolves hats, mini hockey sticks and tickets to upcoming Wolves games for setting and achieving their reading goals.
One child will even get to dress in hockey equipment.
“We are excited to continue to partner with Chicagoland libraries to promote reading outside of school,” said Wolves Senior Vice President of Operations Courtney Mahoney.
“The opportunity for a child to meet Wolves players and hear that they value reading and education in their lives as professional athletes can have a profound effect on their attitude toward recreational reading.”
Throughout the season, nearly 100 libraries and 30,000 children will participate in the program, with Wolves players making appearances at select libraries in the DuPage, North Suburban and Metropolitan Library Systems.
More than 550,000 children have participated in Read to Succeed since the program's inception in 1995.
