Big Ten basketball honors for McCamey, Moore
A pair of senior guards will share Big Ten Player of the Week honors to open the conference season.
Demetri McCamey of Illinois averaged 20.5 points and 8.5 assists while shooting 61 percent from the field and 75 percent from three-point range in helping the Illini to victories over Iowa and Wisconsin.
He will share honors with Purdue's E'Twaun Moore, who averaged 26.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game as Purdue went 2-0 in conference play with wins over Michigan and Northwestern.
McCamey earned his first double-double of the season and seventh of his career in the win at Iowa, scoring a game-high 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-5 from behind the arc. Against Wisconsin, the Bellwood, Ill., native had a game-high 21 points, including 14 of Illinois' final 16 points, registering his fifth 20-point game of the season and 22nd of his career.
Against Michigan, Moore netted 14 of his 21 points in the second half as Purdue won, 80-57. On Friday against the Wildcats, the senior guard hit 5 of his first 6 three-point field goal attempts on the way to tying his career high with 31 points. He finished the game 11-of-20 from the field and 7-of-13 from the arc, setting career highs for makes and attempts from long distance.
Ohio State's 6-9 center Jared Sullinger earned Freshman of the Week honors for the seventh time this season as he averaged a double-double last week with 18.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in wins vs. Tennessee-Martin and Indiana.
