Appliances stolen from Finnerty house in Arlington Hts.

Appliances valued at $6,000 have been stolen from the Finnerty house on the 100 block of East Park Street in Arlington Heights.

The home, which saw a tragic fire in June 2009, is being renovated with the help of many people and companies in the community. It is for sale.

A high-end stainless steel double oven and a double-drawer dishwasher were stored in the home’s garage, according to a report filed with Arlington Heights police.

It is believed the thief or thieves got into the house through a lockbox opened with a combination.

One complicating factor is the theft can only be narrowed down to between Dec. 17 and Jan. 17, when it was discovered. Since the appliances were in the garage and the holidays intervened apparently the theft was not noticed, said Sgt. Mike Hernandez of investigations in the Arlington Heights Police Department.

Jennifer Murphy Cazares, who with her husband, Jerry Cazares, is raising the two Finnerty children who survived the fire that killed their parents and brother, posted a note about the theft on Facebook. The note said she wanted the word spread in case anyone passing the house had witnessed the theft.

The home just south of downtown Arlington Heights is listed for sale for $519,000 with Dina Skinner of Meritage Realty.

“You hate to think people out there, knowing what happened, would do something like that,” said Hernandez.
