Does your dog have star potential?
Do you have a small, cute, trained dog that you think is a showbiz natural?
Then come to the Maine West auditorium at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, and have your star pooch audition for the coveted role of Toto in the musical production of “The Wiz.”
The Maine West Fine Arts Department is presenting “The Wiz,” an updated version of The Wizard of Oz, on Feb. 24, 25 and 26 and on March 5 and 6. Dorothy’s pet dog and best friend, Toto, is an important part of the production.
However, unlike the film, in which Toto accompanies Dorothy on her adventures in Oz, in this stage version Toto is seen only in Kansas, at the beginning and at the end of the show.
“The dog does not need to be a Cairn terrier as in the film, ‘The Wizard of Oz,’” said Carla Skiba, the show’s director. “However we are hoping to find a smaller dog who will run across the stage at the beginning and at the end of the show. The dog could chase a ball or respond to a visual command.”
Any questions may be directed to Skiba through the Fine Arts Department office at Maine West, (847) 803-5895, or by e-mail at cskiba@maine207.org.
