Elmhurst man indicted in fatal hit-and-run
An Elmhurst man accused of fleeing a fatal crash in Aurora last month has been indicted on felony charges.
Rocio V. Garza, 22, of the 100 block of W. Van Buren St., was indicted Thursday by a DuPage County grand jury on charges of aggravated leaving the scene of a fatal accident and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
Prosecutors alleged in court documents that Garza failed to stop, render aid or report information to authorities after his vehicle struck a man walking along Butterfield Road, just east of Eola Road, at 4:29 a.m. Dec. 12.
The victim, Robert Vincze of Michigan, was taken to Provena-Mercy Hospital in Aurora, where he later died.
Aurora police have said an anonymous tip led them to Garza, who remained in the county jail Friday on $150,000 bail.
Garza is scheduled to appear Monday in front of DuPage Judge George Bakalis. His attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
According to court records, Garza has prior convictions for theft, theft of labor services and retail theft in DuPage County.
