Libertyville firefighters raise over $5,100 for MDA

Submitted by Michael Weaver

Libertyville Professional Fire Fighters Local #3892 recently raised more than $5,100 during its annual Fill the Boot campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Fire fighters asked commuters from the Libertyville community to fill their boots with donations during the afternoon rush hours. They also stood at the storefronts of the local Jewel and Ace Hardware store to accept donations.

Firefighters nationwide raised more than $24 million in 2011 for MDA research, equipment, programs, camps and more, and are already surpassing this number in 2012, with boot drives still in session.

“Firefighters throughout the U.S. have been one of the biggest supporters of the MDA for decades,” said April Dhamalongkrot, a fundraising coordinator for MDA Chicago. “This simple street-side collection campaign provides an easy and convenient mechanism for commuting Americans to make a contribution to one of America’s most beloved charities, by America’s most admired heroes.”

Libertyville firefighters and MDA wish to thank Ace, Jewel and the village of Libertyville for their support. Libertyville firefighters and MDA also want to thank the community for their generosity.
