Drug charges in McHenry County

McHenry County sheriff’s deputies arrested four people Friday on the 5200 block of Lear Street near Wonder Lake on narcotics charges. Two face felonies with bonds set at $50,000 each.

James Demouchette, 33, and Jenny E. Taylor, 24, both of the Lear Street address, were arrested after authorities say they delivered cocaine to an undercover sheriff’s investigator.

The arrests were the culmination of a narcotics investigation, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s narcotic and gang unit, which consists of sheriff’s investigators and an investigator from the Lake in the Hills Police Department; the sheriff’s SWAT Team; and a K-9 unit executed the arrest and search warrants.

Sheriff Keith Nygren estimated the drugs seized to be worth more than $7,400, including about 148 grams of cocaine individually packaged and more than 10 grams of cannabis. Investigators also reported finding scales, packaging materials, drug paraphernalia and more than $2,500 in cash.

Demouchette is a felon and documented street gang member, according to the sheriff’s news release.

Demouchette and Taylor were arrested on warrants of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Each also was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver; unlawful possession of a controlled substance; possession of cannabis; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Demouchette was also charged with obstruction of justice because officers said he was attempting to destroy evidence.

Bond for each was set at $50,000.

Misdemeanor charges were made against two 27-year-olds with bond set at $1,500 each.

Derek M. Berlanga of the Lear Street address was charged with resisting a peace officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jovan D. Covington of Chicago faces charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and cannabis.
