Lake Zurich church to host its annual Christmas pageant
Quentin Road Baptist Church in Lake Zurich hosts its annual Christmas pageant Friday and Saturday, Dec. 15 and 16.
“Bethlehem’s Cry Heard Around the World” is the theme of the 2012 production, with songs and drama, complete with a donkey, sheep, goats, ducks and, of course, the now-famous camel.
Professional lighting, costumes, and staging make this an event no one in the audience will ever forget. The four performances bring out thousands of people from the local areas of Lake Zurich, Wauconda, and Palatine.
The Christmas pageant also sees attendees from Chicago, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Most performances were sold out last year, organizers said.
“Seeing each of the kings make their grand entrances into the room is definitely my favorite part. But when that camel comes in, he definitely commands everyone’s attention at that moment,” says Mike Cornelison, who performs as part of the 200-voice adult choir.
The performances include more than 500 children ranging in age from 3 years old through high school.
Founding pastor James A. Scudder, host of the international television program “Victory In Grace,” said he enjoys many aspects of the pageant.
“After 40 years of Christmas pageants of all sizes, it is still such a thrill to share the real joy of Christmas with each one of the thousands who attend,” Scudder said. “We count it as such an honor to be a family tradition.”
Performances are scheduled for 2 and 6 p.m. Dec. 15 and 16 at the church, 60 Quentin Road, Lake Zurich.
