Wisconsin’s Kohl to give farewell remarks to Senate
MILWAUKEE — Wisconsin Sen. Herb Kohl is preparing to give his final speech from the Senate floor.
The retiring Democrat is scheduled to deliver farewell remarks Thursday at 10 a.m. Central. CSPAN2 will carry his speech live.
Kohl took office in 1989 for his first of four terms. The 77-year-old is stepping down after his current term is up Jan. 2.
Kohl serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and he chairs the Special Committee on Aging. He also sits on the Senate’s appropriations and banking committees.
Kohl owns the Milwaukee Bucks, and consistently ranks as one of Congress’s wealthiest members. He ran on the motto, “Nobody’s senator but yours,” suggesting he would be answerable to the people, not to special interests.
He will be replaced by fellow Democrat Tammy Baldwin.
