Why give it away if we’re broke?

Hurrah for Janet Lumm’s Nov. 18 letter. If you took a survey you would find that most people agree with Janet.

No one except Americans are helping the people affected by Hurricane Sandy, so why do we give help and aid to almost every country in the world?

America is broke and in debt, yet our politicians still give away billions of dollars.
