Lenten Shoe Drive for Tree of Life Mission at Epworth UMC

Join Epworth United Methodist Church, 37W040 Highland Ave. in Elgin, for Maundy Thursday worship and bring a pair of shoes to donate to the Tree of Life Mission in South Dakota

Maundy Thursday worship will be at 7 p.m. April 21 at Epworth UMC to commemorate Jesus' last supper with the disciples. Jesus made a big deal of modeling selfless love -- for the disciples and for the world. The foot washing dramatized Jesus overwhelming humility as servant vs. master.

For the Maundy Thursday service, there are two requests:

1.) Be prepared to take your shoes off for the service. There will not be foot washing, but the congregation will humble itself before God and one another “shoeless.” For those who must have footwear, keep it as simple and humble as possible.

2.) Collect gently worn footwear to donate to The Tree of Life mission center in South Dakota where the church youth and adults have built a “servant” connection. The church will collect for the remainder of Lent and into the Easter season but dedicate shoes to the work of God at the service on Maundy Thursday. Have one pair of shoes ready to present to the altar on Maundy Thursday.
