Texas A&M announces new 5-year deal for coach Billy Kennedy

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Texas A&M has agreed to a new five-year contract with coach Billy Kennedy in a deal announced just before the 17th-ranked Aggies played Saturday in the Southeastern Conference Tournament semifinals.

Athletic director Scott Woodard announced the deal, which must be approved by the Texas A&M Board of Regents.

Woodward says the new deal is well-deserved after Kennedy coached the Aggies to their first conference title in 30 years, with an NCAA Tournament berth likely Sunday.

The Aggies (25-7) split the SEC regular-season title with Kentucky in Kennedy's fifth season. They have a chance at the program's first appearance in a tournament final since 1994, when they were in the Southwest Conference.

Kennedy says he appreciates Texas A&M's support and looks forward to leading the Aggies for many years.
