Elgin man could face more drug charges
Police say they found more than a pound of marijuana in the home of a 36-year-old Elgin resident, and he could face more charges next week.
Mario Hernandez, of the 700 block of South Street, was being held on $2 million bail after his arrest this week, authorities said.
“We anticipate additional charges next week,” said Kane County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Patrick Gengler.
Police went to Hernandez’s home at about 4 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a tip about drug dealing occurring there, Gengler said.
One of the occupants gave deputies permission to search the home and they seized more than a pound of pot, which has a street value of more than $20,000, Gengler said.
Hernandez is charged with unlawful criminal cannabis conspiracy, possession of cannabis with the intent to deliver and unlawful possession of cannabis. The most serious felony carries a maximum prison term of five years.
Hernandez is due in court on Feb. 9.
