Dundee Lions host annual tournamentThe Dundee Lions Club continue its 15th annual Middle School Girls Basketball Tournament. The semifinals will start at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, at Dundee Middle School, 37W450 Route 72, West Dundee, and Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Westfield Community School, 2100 Sleepy Hollow Road, Algonquin. The championship games will be Thursday, Feb. 25, at Carpentersville Middle School, 100 Cleveland Ave., Carpentersville. The seventh- and eighth-graders have been working hard for months on their presentations, which they will also present on Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Illinois Regional History Fair in DeKalb. Some of the topics the students have researched include the Great Chicago Fire, the Our Lady of the Angels school fire, The Second City, the Chicago World's Fair, and the Shedd Aquarium.Enjoy big band music SundayThe monthly free public dances hosted by Les Pace and the Pacemakers will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Elgin Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1600 Weld Road. Proceeds will benefit local and global missions.Get an update on riverfront projectThe city of Elgin is continuing the vision for its riverfront with the start of the next phase, Riverside Drive Promenade. Downtown property and business owners, employees, residents, and interested citizens are encouraged to attend an update meeting to learn more about the proposed improvements and construction from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, in the Fox River Room of the Grand Victoria Casino, 250 S. Grove Ave., Elgin. Hitchcock Design Group will give a presentation. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation with representatives from the city, DNA and Hitchcock Design Group.
