Driver found in Elgin hit-and-run
Elgin police said the car involved in a hit-and-run Thursday evening has been discovered and the driver has spoken with police.
Police were searching for the driver of the red vehicle who hit the unidentified pedestrian around 6:45 p.m. Thursday near Lyle Street and Grandstand Place and then fled the scene.
Elgin Police Lt. Matt Udelhoven said paramedics took the male victim to Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, where he was listed in critical condition. Police said his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Udelhoven said the car was located late Thursday and the driver has given a statement to police.
Lt. Sean Rafferty said the female driver has been hospitalized but it is unclear if her injuries are related to Thursday's crash.
As of Friday afternoon, the driver had not been charged, Rafferty said.
Udelhoven said police are discussing the matter with the Kane County State's Attorney's office and charges could be approved later Friday.
