Rambo the dog sniffs out 35 kilos of opium at O'Hare
A federal drug-sniffing dog discovered more than 35 kilograms of opium-saturated twigs and leaves at O'Hare International Airport that were disguised as herbal tea, officials said.
The dog found four shipments of opium on Tuesday and Wednesday that had been soaked and dried onto the wooden twigs and packed in dried leaves, according to a news release issued by the customs officials.
The confiscated shipment, labeled as "Hmong Traditional Medicine Tea," had 273 plastic bags containing the twigs and leaves, the release states.
The dog, named Rambo, was working with his handler for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection when the drugs were discovered at the O'Hare foreign mail facility, officials said.
The packages had been shipped from Laos and were to continue on to the Minneapolis area.
