Seniors serve up win for Grayslake North

Seniors delivered on senior night for Grayslake North’s boys soccer team in its Fox Valley Conference Fox Division finale Thursday.

The result was a 2-0 win over McHenry for the Knights, who improved to 8-14, while finishing 4-2 in the FVC Fox.

A pair of seniors, Sean Blashe and Sintayehu Meyer, scored for Grayslake North. Two other seniors, Arnaud Laroche-Bataille and Dennis Biesiada, had assists. Sophomore keeper Dean Jones made 3 saves in earning the clean sheet.

The Knights honored 10 seniors.

“The entire team stepped up and played a complete game, from start to finish, to help give the seniors a great game to look back upon,” Grayslake North coach Adam DeCaluwe said. “The boys have really played with tremendous confidence lately, and it really showed tonight. We moved the ball with great purpose, and it allowed us to create several great scoring chances.”

The lone goal of the first half came after the Knights had what DeCaluwe called “one of our best possessions of the year.” Meyer eventually played a ball across the face of the goal, where Laroche-Bataille used his head to knock the ball down so Blashe could finish with his first touch.

Meyer provided an insurance tally in the second half, redirecting a shot from Biesiada.

Grayslake North will next play next Wednesday, when it hosts Grayslake Central at 6:30 p.m. in a Class 2A regional semifinal.

Huntley 4, Grayslake Central 0: Lucas Baker scored twice for the Red Raiders, who improved to 15-6-1.
