Chicago's Walmart OK is a good thing

I find it fascinating when people want to voice their negative opinions about a subject and never offer a counterpoint. Susan Grandt of Elgin recently wrote on how the hiring of 12,000 people at 50 cents over the minimum wage, while employing 2,000 union workers to build 12 Walmarts, would not jump start the local economy. Really?

Susan apparently believes all 14,000 people would be better off sitting at home receiving unemployment, which definitely does not stimulate the local economy and sucks more of our taxpayer money. The city of Chicago finally got something right in approving the 12 Walmart stores.

Although I am not an advocate for Walmart, I do believe they have a purpose to provide lower-priced items for those who do not make significant monies. Hey, maybe Susan thinks all people making minimum wage can afford to shop at Nordstroms and Macy's. Letters such as these can gain credibility if they include alternative ideas to their negative assertions.

Congratulations are in order for the revival of the economy in the city of Chicago.
