Authorities: North Chicago jail inmate died from heavy blood loss after dialysis port removed

A Chicago man who was found dead last week in a North Chicago jail cell died from severe blood loss after his dialysis port was removed, authorities said Tuesday.

Dearsenio Sloan, 34, was found dead at 5:30 a.m. Oct. 8. He had been arrested the night before on a criminal trespassing warrant and a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

According to authorities, Sloan said he felt ill at the police station, and an ambulance was summoned. Sloan later was released from the hospital and returned to police custody.

An autopsy showed no sign of significant trauma, the Lake County coroner's office said.

The death is still under investigation.
