Eagle candidate builds path at Maryville Academy
On June 16, Michael Netko from Boy Scout Troop 66, in Bartlett, completed his Eagle Scout service project at Maryville Academy, 951 W. Bartlett Road, in Bartlett.
On this day, over 20 members of Troop 66, as well as friends and family, assembled to build a walking path from the intersection of two roads to the playground area. After many months of planning, Netko was able to make his vision of a safe path to the “Sanctuary” a reality for the residents of Maryville’s Eisenberg Campus. The path is approximately 185-feet in total length.
Along the way, Netko was given guidance by the program director, Dr. Rocco Cimmarusti and the adult leaders of Troop 66. Netko also wishes to acknowledge the tremendous donations of time, material and equipment from Sebert Landscaping, Fox River Stone, Welch Bros., Midwest Groundcovers and Home Depot. The successful completion of this project would not have been possible without their help.
Maryville Academy’s campus in Bartlett is for girls, who have mental illnesses and are pregnant or have babies. These teen mothers are taught how to take care of themselves and their babies. The Sanctuary not only serves as a place for the kids to play, but also provides the other residents with a safe peaceful place to relax and enjoy nature.
