Grayslake Lions Club’s annual Steer Roast set for Sept. 9

For the 49th year, Grayslake Lions will prepare a slow-roasted beef dinner Sunday, Sept. 9, at the Grayslake Middle School, 440 North Barron Blvd.

Meal service will begin at noon and conclude at 5 p.m. The meal, including beef roasted 18 hours, corn on the cob, baked potato, fresh tomatoes, onions, dinner roll and butter, is all-you-can-eat. Milk, coffee and desserts of pies, brownies and other baked goods is included. Soft drinks can be purchased separately.

The cost is $12 for adults ages 12-61, $11 for seniors 62 and older and $6 for children ages 5 to 11. Younger children are admitted free. Eat-in or takeout is available.

All proceeds from the event are dedicated to sight conservation and blind activities, Community Assistance Programs, and hearing restoration and conservation activities in the Grayslake area.

Preparations for the dinner start about 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, when the charcoal roasting of 1,200 pounds of beef using a 10-foot long spit begins. Cooking continues through the night on the south side of the school building. Lions Club members tending the beef welcome visitors.

In conjunction with the Steer Roast and in partnership with the Lions of Illinois Foundation, the Grayslake Lions will offer a free hearing test screening at the middle school between noon and 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9. No meal purchase is necessary.
