Suicide suspected in Illinois hospital shooting
SYCAMORE — A male patient and his female live-in companion died in what police say was a double suicide or murder-suicide at Kindred Hospital in the northern Illinois community of Sycamore.
Police on Wednesday identified them as 54-year-old Mario Engoglia and 57-year-old Susan Triezenberg of Granville.
In a statement Wednesday, Sycamore police say evidence suggests "one or both of the victims' deaths were self-inflicted." The investigation is continuing.
Police Chief Don Thomas says officers called to the hospital Tuesday evening after a report of gunfire in a patient room found the victims dead of gunshot wounds. Thomas says a handgun was found near the patient's body.
According to its website, Kindred Hospital is a 69-bed facility that specializes in long-term care.
Granville is located about 90 miles southwest of Chicago.
