Ex-NIU wideout joins Rutgers staff

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- P.J. Fleck has been named the wide receivers coach at Rutgers.

Coach Greg Schiano made the announcement on Thursday, the second time in less than a month that he has named a successor to Brian Jenkins.

Cleveland Browns receivers coach George McDonald accepted the same position with the Scarlet Knights earlier this month but decided to return to the NFL team.

Fleck spent the last three seasons as the receivers coach at Northern Illinois. Two of his 2008 receivers - Britt Davis and Matt Simon - signed free agent contracts with the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints.

A leader on Northern Illinois' 2003 10-win team, Fleck began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Ohio State in 2006 after two seasons as a member of the San Francisco 49ers.
