Elgin council doesn’t understand
Taxes on top of taxes.
It seems that Elgin City Council members are determined to raise new taxes because, after all, other municipalities have more taxes.
Perhaps the council members are comfortable, but many citizens are not as well off as the council. Or didn’t they notice that people are out of work and some are out of homes? Our federal government cannot seem to find $1.2 trillion to cut over 10 years; which amounts to a 3-percent budget cut in one year; this despite $9 trillion of unnecessary spending that Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) has reported.
Many of us have had to cut our budgets. I am quite sure there are many of us who can find the spending cuts that so elude our governing representatives. After all, they can be “cut,” too.
