Johnsburg man's body found in national park

WEST GLACIER, Mont. — Glacier National Park officials say search crews have found the body of a 27-year-old seasonal employee from Illinois who didn't return from a personal day hike.

Jacob “Jake” Rigby's body was spotted by a helicopter crew Friday on a mountain known as “8888” in the southern part of the park. Officials say he may have fallen about 800 feet on the north side of the extremely steep mountain.

Search crews are forming a plan to safely recover the body.

Rigby, who worked for the exotic plant team at the park the past three summers, was reported overdue early Monday. Air and ground searches were launched.

Rigby graduated from Johnsburg High School and received a geology degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
