Bartlett mayor treated unfairly
I have never written to a newspaper, never thought I had better insight or judgment. I’ve ranted and raved at my wife and kids and left it at that. Today that changes. The resignation of Bartlett Mayor Mike Kelly has upset me deeply. I myself have paid real estate taxes late the last four years on my commercial property. I don’t consider that a crime, or even immoral. I just paid a bill late.
To condemn a person for that is hypocritical — who among us has never paid a bill late? To humiliate and embarrass someone over it, in front of their friends and neighbors, is unbelievable. To use it for political advantage is despicable.
We are losing the services of a good man who has been of great value to his community. We are also losing the services of a good men and women who will now never allow themselves and family to be the object of this kind of treatment. I hope Mike’s resignation will cause us to reflect on this sad behavior, to recommit to only supporting people who treat others with respect and courtesy in the public arena.
