I will continue to support and work in all avenues promoting the Longmeadow bridge and completion of the Western Bypass.Questions Answers What makes you the best candidate for the job?With my background in accounting, community service, past service on the Village Economic Development Commission, the Planning and Zoning Board and 4 years as trustee, I have the knowledge to continue to steer the village in a direction completing the community with a balance of residental, commercial and industrial that is needed to provide a successful future while respecting the past of the village and enriching the present.Given the delicate balance between the need for revenue and over-taxing local businesses, what is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain.The portion of sales tax that the village currently receives is a good source of revenue that is used to prepare a balanced budget. Having multiple sources of revenue for the budget is essential for a fiscally sound village.Talking with your friends and neighbors, what seems to be their biggest public safety concern? Explain the concern as you see it, and discuss how you think it should be addressed.Everyone is always asking about Riverside Square. Aside from being an eyesore, this unfinished building is a safety concern. Since the village does not own the property, they cannot complete it nor tear it down. The legal course being pursued it how it should be addressed.In these tight economic times, municipal budgets have to be prioritized. Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?Our current budget is on track to remain balanced for this fiscal year. With the downturn in the economy, some of our income sources are not as large as they were in past years. By rearranging the time tables for necessary projects, the village is making sure the citizens are being provided with the quality of services needed and expected with the revenue sources available. Algonquin, like all villages, needs to be able to receive the funds owed to them by the state of Illinois on a timely basis to function efficiently. I am not in favor of cutting services to the citizens of Algonquin because the state is negligent in their committments. I have in the past, and will continue to in the future, to press our state representatives to do their job in Springfield to ensure timely receipt of the funds owed the village.What's one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?Community center for teens and/or seniors
