Baby dies after rescue from Fox River in Wis.
TOWN OF RUSHFORD, Wis. — A Fox Valley mother is in custody after her baby was pulled from an SUV partially submerged in the Fox River and was pronounced dead at an Oshkosh hospital.
Winnebago County sheriff's deputies responded to the Eureka boat landing in the Town of Rushford about 11 p.m. Saturday following a 911 call. They learned a baby was in a Ford Explorer that was nearly under water. Omro-Rushford firefighters extricated the child from the SUV and tried to revive him. But, the 8-month-old boy was pronounced dead at Mercy Medical Center.
Sheriff's Capt. Steven Verwiel says the 911 caller was not the 27-year-old mother from Omro. An autopsy is expected to be done Monday by the Fond du Lac County medical examiner.
