Outdoor concert lineup on Randall Road

Roamin' Randall

It may seem as if summerlike weather will never get here, but the folks at Geneva Commons and Algonquin Commons along Randall Road are planning for its arrival.

In less than a month, the first summer concert series event of the year will start at the Geneva Commons outdoor mall.

And shortly after, Algonquin Commons will kick off its concert series.

Dirty Dan's Cool Rockin' Daddies will open Geneva Commons' ninth annual summer concert series season Wednesday, June 1, playing from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Let's hope not, but of course there is always a chance it may still be cold by then. Surely, though, summer will be here by the time Algonquin Commons' third annual Sunday Night Live Concert series begins on July 10.

Johnny Russler and The Beach Bum Band will start the series off that night at Algonquin Commons.

Both summer concert series' have been popular in the past, with the live music, warm weather and a fun atmosphere drawing families and friends out for some free summer entertainment.

People often bring food along to enjoy during the live music. You also can get food at some of the local restaurants in the outdoor malls, and bring it with you to your spots in front of the band.

You'll also want to bring along some chairs or blankets to sit on as you listen to the music with your friends and family.

But don't expect to be sitting too long. Often, people are up and dancing before the band finishes playing — especially the little kids who come out to enjoy the night with their families.

Even if you can't make the first concert of the season, there will be more each week at Geneva Commons.

Each Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. through June 26, you'll get to see a live band for free in the courtyard near Houlihan's at the mall as part of this series.

After Dirty Dan's Cool Rockin' Daddies on June 1, there will be Red Woody on June 5; 7th Heaven on June 8; The Fundamentals on June 12; Denny Diamond on June 15; Hi-Infidelity on June 19; MissBehavin' on June 22; and The Neverly Brothers rounding out the series on June 26.

Once that series ends, the Sunday Night Live Concert series at Algonquin Commons will almost be ready to begin.

The mall to the north will feature one of the same bands as Geneva Commons, and some new entertainers too.

Kids' activities begin at 3 p.m., and the concerts run from 5 to 7 p.m.

After Johnny Russler and The Beach Bum Bands on Sunday, July 10, you'll see Soda on July 17; Small Time Dave and the Windy City Groove on July 24; and 7th Heaven on July 31.

The concerts all take place outside, usually in the grassy area near Cheeseburger in Paradise.

There are often giveaways and kids' events at each of the concerts, too.

Stay tuned for any upcoming additions or fun events planned at the outdoor malls' summer series.
