Renee Fleming to honor 9/11 victims in Chicago

Opera star soprano Renee Fleming will perform a free concert in Chicago with the Lyric Opera on the night before the tenth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Fleming will perform at the “Stars of the Lyric Opera at Millennium Park” concert on Sept. 10. The opera says the program will honor “the victims of 9/11, their families and the men and women of the armed services.”

Fleming will be joined by tenors Matthew Polenzani and René Barbera, bass-baritone James Morris, sopranos Anna Christy and Susanna Phillips, mezzo-sopranos Jamie Barton and Emily Fons, and baritone Ljubomir Puskaric.

French conductor Emmanuel Villaume will lead the Lyric Opera’s orchestra.

Fleming was announced last year as a creative consultant for the Lyric Opera.
