Lake Forest man responsible for murder-suicide in Vegas hotel lobby

A Lake Forest man was at the trigger of a gun in what’s believed to have been a murder-suicide in a Las Vegas hotel lobby, authorities said.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said Edward Brandt, 31, entered Excalibur Hotel and Casino about 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, and he fired several gunshots toward the lobby concierge desk, striking and killing Jessica Kenny.

Police said an investigation indicated “there may have been a previous dating relationship” between Kenny and Brandt. Police spokesman Marcus Martin said a handgun was used in the shooting.

Clark County Coroner P. Michael Murphy said Monday that Kenny, 30, died from multiple gunshots to her head and chest from what’s tentatively classified as a homicide. Kenny died at University Medical Center in Las Vegas, police said.

Murphy said the Lake Forest man died from a self-inflicted bullet wound to his head that was considered a suicide. Brandt was pronounced dead at the hotel.

Police said many emergency calls were received about shots possibly being fired in Excalibur’s lobby. They said patrol officers found Kenny and Brandt on the ground near the concierge desk suffering from gunshot wounds.

Kenny was working for VEGAS.com at the hotel-casino’s concierge desk when she was shot. VEGAS.com is a travel company.

“We were saddened to learn that a member of the VEGAS.com family was the victim of (Friday’s) tragic and senseless killing at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino Las Vegas,” company Chief Operating Officer Bryan Allison said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.”
