Downers Grove teen charged in burglary

Downers Grove Police have arrested a suspect in connection to a residential burglary that occurred on Aug. 30.

19-year-old Sean Place of the 6100 block of Lane Place in Downers Grove turned himself in Wednesday after police informed him that he was wanted for the crime.

At 2:50 a.m. on Aug. 30, Downers Grove residents on the 5500 block of Lyman Avenue awoke to find a man in their basement, police said. The man was not armed, and there was no confrontation between the residents and the suspect.

The residents called the police and the suspect fled the home when he saw the officers pulling up to the home, police said.

Police later spotted Place walking nearby, matching the description given by the residents, and brought him into the station for questioning.

After a week-long investigation, police said they were able to link crime lab evidence to Place and issued a warrant for his arrest Wednesday.

He is currently being held in the DuPage County Jail and bond has been set at $200,000.
