Man charged after fleeing Elgin casino, injuring officer, police say

An Elgin man who was previously barred from the Grand Victoria Casino faces a slew of charges after injuring a police officer who was chasing him from the establishment Tuesday, authorities said.

Scott M. Ambrose, 43, was charged with aggravated battery of a police officer, restricting arrest, threatening a public official and criminal trespass to property after the Tuesday incident.

Police said Ambrose, who lives on the 300 block of North Liberty Street, had been warned about loitering at the casino and swearing inside the casino before Wednesday’s arrest.

Ambrose attempted to flee the casino and officer suffered some minor injuries after the “very short chase,” said Elgin police spokeswoman Sue Olafson.

Ambrose is being held at the Kane County jail in lieu of $200,000. He is due in court Nov. 28.
