Naperville's Last Fling brings the star power
Meghan Sly had one thing to say to Nicole Anderson and Chelsea Staub, two Hollywood actresses who portray Macy Misa and Stella Malone, respectively, in Disney's "Jonas LA" TV show.
"I told them 'Hi, you rock!" the 11-year-old Scullen Middle School sixth-grader said Sunday. "I am so excited. I'm a big fan of 'Jonas LA.'"
And it showed. During a musical chairs-type game played with large plastic dots on the ground and with Jonas Brothers music, most contestants walked the circle around the dots, anxiously anticipating the stopping of the music. Meghan, however, danced around them.
She said the show's endings usually have her excited for the next episode.
"I like how they are continuous and always leave you eager and waiting for more," she said. The Disney show is in the middle of its second season, and its first set in Los Angeles.
Staub and Anderson were in Naperville Sunday for the city's annual Last Fling celebration, which concludes today. Organized by the Naperville Jaycees along the Riverwalk in downtown Naperville, the massive event includes a carnival, food, a business expo, family activities, special games and a slate of live music. It runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today; for more information, visit lastfling.org.
For Staub and Anderson, Naperville was just one of several stops around the country meeting fans.
"They tend to keep us out there and we love it," she said.
In the show, Staub plays the Jonas brothers' stylist and friend, while Anderson portrays a friend and president of the group's fan club.
Staub said the show has been a blessing and that even having a chance to act for a living makes meeting the fans that much more special.
"It's amazing being able to see everyone out here," she said. "It really hits you that people actually watch it."
For Anderson, just seeing the excitement of the crowd was a great way to spend the day, she said.
"To see how enthusiastic they are," she said, "it's a blessing to do what we love and to do it every day."
For the Sly family from Naperville, it was an all-around success.
Meghan's sister, 5 1/2-year-old Madeline, ran to her mother screaming "This is awesome!" while holding up a signed photograph of the two stars.
Meanwhile, their father, William, also took part in the musical dots game, at the urging of Meghan. While he didn't make it past the first round - his daughter tied for first in her game - he said he still enjoyed the day.
"It's great," he said. "They are having a good time. It's a great chance to come out and play and see some of the stars from their favorite TV show."
