St. Charles man charged with breaking into grandparents’ home

A 20-year-old St. Charles man who police say broke into his grandparents’ home last fall and later called 911 on other intruders has been charged with burglary, police announced Thursday.

Tyler M. Rust of the 6N100 block of Riverside Drive was arrested at the Kendall County courthouse and charged with residential burglary and criminal damage to property, both felonies, according to the Kendall County sheriff’s office.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to Rust’s 911 call reporting that he was “having problems” with intruders at the house on the 0-99 block of Fox Glen Court in Yorkville about 8:20 a.m. Nov. 13, according to authorities.

Rust was transported to a hospital on an unrelated matter after deputies arrived, but an investigation later revealed he had broken into the house through a basement window and was at the residence illegally, police said.

Authorities said he rifled through drawers in the home and damaged a vehicle in the attached garage.

Rust’s grandparents were out of town when the break-in occurred, according to police.

A warrant was issued for his arrest in early March.

He is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail at the Kendall County jail.
