Chicago police officer wounded in shootout
A Chicago police officer was being treated Wednesday for a gunshot wound suffered in a shootout with suspects while conducting an investigation into reported gun sales.
Authorities say the Area South Gun Team was approaching three subjects late Wednesday when they fled on foot. The officers were pursuing two people when one turned and opened fire, wounding a 35-year-old, five-year veteran of the department. The officers returned fire, wounding one offender, who was taken into custody. A second person was arrested.
Authorities say a weapon was recovered at the scene, and a third person is being sought.
The officer, who suffered a leg wound, and the wounded suspect were taken to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn for treatment. Authorities say both are expected to live.
