Expert says Vaughn’s jacket has suspicious bullet pattern
An expert’s testimony in the trial of a man accused of killing his wife and three children indicate bullet holes show someone wrapped a jacket around the handgun allegedly used in the shooting.
Illinois State Police firearms analyst Nicole Fundell testified Thursday that Christopher Vaughn’s jacket had bullet holes in front and back as well as its left sleeve. She showed how the size and location of the holes indicated the jacket had been wrapped around a gun.
Will County prosecutors are expected to argue Vaughn used the jacket when he shot himself after murdering his family.
Prosecutors say Vaughn of Oswego killed his family so he could start a new life in Canada.
Vaughn’s attorneys say his wife, Kimberly, committed the crimes because she was distraught over marriage troubles.
