Hoffman Estates document/electronics recycling event is Aug. 11

The village of Hoffman Estates is partnering with the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County to host a combined document destruction and electronics recycling event, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Susan H. Kenley-Rupnow Public Works Center, 2305 Pembroke Ave.

There is no cost to attend, but the event is for SWANCC-member residents only, and proof of residency is required. Simply drive to the location, and workers will unload the recyclables from your car. All paper is shredded on site by Accurate Document Destruction, a division of Groot Industries Inc., and all electronics will be recycled by Supply-Chain Services. For more information about these companies, visit www.shredd.net or www.supply-chainservices.com.

Typical documents that can be shredded include medical records, bank statements and retired tax forms. Staples and paper clips are acceptable, but binders should be removed. Residents will be limited to six grocery-sized bags or boxes of documents.

Under the new Electronics Products Recycling and Reuse Act, only the following electronic items will be accepted:

Ÿ Computers and computer equipment

Ÿ Printers and scanners

Ÿ Cellphones and PDAs

Ÿ Fax machines

Ÿ MP3 players

Ÿ TVs and VHS and DVD players
