UIC announces new $104M sciences building

Construction will begin next year on a new $104 million science building at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

University and state officials announced the construction Wednesday during a campus event.

The Advanced Chemical Technology Building will house faculty in chemistry, biology and physics. They’ll work together to research ideas on a number of cutting-edge technologies. That includes in dental services, lasers and environmental science. Construction is slated to begin at the end of the academic year. It’ll take more than two years to build.

The building will be funded by $64 million in state capital funds.

Gov. Pat Quinn says the building is expected to create 200 construction jobs.
