Your news AquaSprites to present 40th annual show Aug. 10

The AquaSprites will bring a taste of the Olympics with its 40th annual summer show, “Americana.”

The Lattof YMCA, Des Plaines, is home to the AquaSprites Synchronized Swim Team, which was established in 1972. Synchronized swimming was officially declared an Olympic sport in 1984. The sport combines graceful and athletic movement in the water accompanied by music.

Novice, intermediate, age group and master athletes perform lifts, throws and platforms without touching the bottom of the 11-foot deep pool.

The 40th annual water show will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Lattof YMCA, 300 Northwest Hwy., Des Plaines. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission at the door is $7 for adults, seniors and students; free for kids ages 5 and younger.
