Learn about Elgin cemeteries at Brown Bag lecture

Submitted by Elgin Area Historical Society

Is Channing School in Elgin haunted? It may be, because it is built on an old city cemetery.

Local historian Steve Stroud will discuss his newest publication, “Silent City: A History of Elgin City Cemeteries,” at the next Brown Bag Lunch Lecture Thursday, Aug. 16, at the Elgin History Museum, 360 Park St. in Elgin.

The book will be released in September in celebration of the Elgin Area Historical Society’s 25th annual Cemetery Walk in Bluff City Cemetery Sunday, Sept. 23.

Stroud also will introduce the Cemetery Walk characters featured in 2012.

Bring your lunch; drinks and dessert will be provided. Admission is $3, free for museum members.
