Condell honors its volunteer corps
From the gift shop to the surgery waiting room, the hundreds of volunteers at Advocate Condell Medical Center play a key role in the caring of patients and families at the Libertyville hospital.
Nearly 300 volunteers were honored at a recent brunch, where two major awards were given.
Delores Illingworth of Mundelein was given the Fred MacKenzie Award for Outstanding Volunteer of 2010. Illingworth works at least four days week and has given more than 5,670 hours of service since 2003. She serves in the radiology waiting room and at special hospital events. Last year’s recipient, Peggy Verlenden of Vernon Hills, presented the award.
More than 80 other volunteers received awards for serving 100 to 18,500 hours.
Also, John (Chris) Hinrichsen of Mundelein was given a pin recognizing his 18,500 hours of service in 2010. Chris has been volunteering two to three days a week in the medical staff office since 1985.
Advocate Condell volunteers gave more than 43,775 total hours of service in 2010, according to Janet Schmitz, manager of Volunteers, Auxiliary and Retail Services.
