Letter on helmet-wearing was silly
Letter on helmet-wearing was silly
While I’m glad to hear that Mark Schrader (Fence Post, Aug. 15) has the common sense to wear a helmet when riding his motorcycle, the logic of his letter is downright silly. Why on earth would an article about a car accident mention whether occupants were wearing helmets?
People in cars have no reason to wear a helmet. In fact, they don’t have smoke alarms in their cars either. And I’m quite sure Mark doesn’t wear his helmet when driving his car.
On the other hand, Daily Herald articles concerning automobile accidents always mention whether occupants who have been injured or killed were wearing seat belts. Or whether a residence fire involving death or injury was equipped with smoke alarms. Seat belts and smoke alarms being safety measures akin to wearing a helmet when riding a motorcycle. And as a reader, I consider this kind of information intrinsic to the reporting of the story.
There may be other reasons to complain about the Herald. This ain’t one of them.
