Spellapalooza returns March 11

The Glen Ellyn Children's Resource Center's third annual Spellapalooza fundraiser is right around the corner at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 11. Local teams will take the stage at the Glenbard West High School auditorium for an old-fashioned spelling bee.

Glen Ellyn Police Chief Phillip Norton will emcee the event as local organizations, clubs and schools compete for the title of Champion Spellers.

Judging the event will be Walter Johnson, CEO of the B.R. Ryall YMCA, and Scott Park, president of the GE Rotary Foundation.

Last year's champ, a group of local women called “Spellin' for Ellen” will not return so the door's open to crown a new winner! Please contact Kasey O'Connell at Kasey.o'connell@sbcglobal.net or visit www.gecrc.org if you would like to form a team.

This annual event raises money to support the Children's Resource Center. The mission of the resource center is to provide literacy and life skills to low-income households in Glen Ellyn.

GECRC provides tutoring in all academic subjects, with an emphasis on educating students for whom English is a second language. It relies on the support of donations, grants and volunteers.

Tickets for this evening of fun and spelling are only $5 and are available before the event at these downtown merchants - The Renaissance Art Gallery and The Glen Ellyn Book Store. Tickets will also be available at the door. So come join the fun!
