Des Plaines firefighters assist walkers
Members of the Des Plaines Professional Firefighters, Local 4211, and their families assisted walkers in the Susan G. Komen 3 Day Walk for the Cure as they completed their journey back to the area base camp at Maryville Academy on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 11.
Tents were erected by the firefighters and their family members in an area off Wolf Road, where food, water, ice packs and a cooling water spray were provided for relief and moral support as more than 1,200 event participants completed the day’s 20-mile hike.
Des Plaines Fire Department Lt. Ken Palenik supervised the tent activities, assisted by committee members firefighter/paramedic Scott Korona, firefighter/paramedic Matt Matzl and firefighter/engineer Jim Utinans.
